Job Summary: The Marketing Student Assistant assists EDGE with a variety of marketing tasks. Creates and implements communication strategies on social media, digital signage, press releases, and campus publications. Researches and proposes new, creative, and innovative ideas for AEI/EDGE marketing and branding of events. Creates timelines for marketing events including tangible goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics. Designs flyers and other promotional materials using Canva software or other design programs. Assists with events. Additional duties as assigned.


Additional Department Summary: The EDGE is a partnership with the University of Alabama, the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Tuscaloosa. Resources from all three groups come together to help grow a vibrant ecosystem that supports entrepreneurship, business growth, and personal enterprise. The Alabama Entrepreneurship Institute (AEI) is a campus-wide initiative powering the programs that are offered at The EDGE. The EDGE hosts monthly events to support local entrepreneurs and already has over 20 startups operating out of the facility.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama student. Good academic standing with a minimum 2.80 cumulative GPA. Ability to work 10 to 20 hours per week. Ability to assist with events outside of normal business hours.

If selected for an interview, must provide an unofficial transcript, a copy of class schedule, and a writing sample (i.e. press release, feature story, etc.) and/or design sample (i.e. flyer, handbill, invitation, etc.).


Skills and Knowledge: Strong background in writing with AP Style & PR Style. Eye for design. Experience in Canva or other design software. Ability to work well with student staff and professional staff members. Ability to troubleshoot problems and produce solutions. Ability to manage multiple projects dependently and independently. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Excel.


Preferred Qualifications: Strong experience with graphic design, social media management, marketing, and/or promotion. 


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
